Q 1. How can I nominate an
employee for a HSE/Defensive Driving Course at TATI?
There are three ways in which you can nominate your employee.
Initially you need to fill up a Nomination form which can be
downloaded from our website.
i. You can fill it up and fax it to us.
ii. You can e-mail it to us.
iii. You can register on line (facility available only for companies
approved by TATI)
Q 2. What do I need in my HSE
passport before I can do a DD course?
PDO-approved HSE induction
Q 3. How can my company cancel
the nomination of an employee on a training course?
A company can cancel a nomination up to 72 hrs before the start
of a training course by sending a written notification to TATI
and will not be liable to pay the training fees.
Q 4. What happens if an employee
does not attend the training course?
TATI has a policy whereby a company can cancel a nomination.
Failure to do so within 72 hrs before the course starts will
result in the nominated person being recorded as a “No
Show” and the course fee will be charged in full..
Q 5. Why is the SJM (Safe Journey
Management) nomination form different to the DD one?
You may only attend an SJM course when you can satisfy the
relevant PDO HSE Learning Ladder and experience prerequisites.
These courses are clearly mentioned on the SJM nomination form,
which is why a different one is required.
Q 6. Where are the DD courses
conducted?
• DD01, DD02, DD04, DD05 - conducted in Muscat
(MSQ and Al Khoud) and DD07 - conducted in Muscat
(Coast).
• DD03, DD04 and DD05 are conducted in Fahud and in Nimr
(Interior).
Q 7. How long are the
courses?
• DD01, DD02 and DD05 are 2-day training programmes.
• DD03, DD04 and DD07 are 1-day training programmes.
Q 8. What languages are the
courses available in?
The courses are available in Arabic, English and Hindi.
Q 9. Are these approved courses?
Yes, these courses are approved by Petroleum Development of
Oman (PDO).
Q 10. What is the dress code
for attending a Defensive Driving course?
Safety boots and overalls should be worn for attending a Heavy
course and comfortable dress, including dish-dasher, and substantial
SHOES NOT SANDALS for light vehicle courses.
Q 11. Is there a test at the
end of a Defensive Driving course?
Yes, there is. The test is administered by a separate standards
body – SDI/SHIEDA conducts the test and issues a driving
permit.
TATI does not conduct the test.
Q 12. What happens if I fail
my assessment?
The employee can reappear for a retest and needs to book this
with SDI/SHIEDA– the standard body that administers the test.
Q 13. What happens if I fail
my second assessment?
You will have to do the initial DD course again with TATI.
Q 14. Is retraining subject
to additional payment?
Q 15. Who provides heavy vehicles
for practical training on Defensive Driving Courses?
The company who nominates an employee provides the heavy vehicles
(including HGV trucks, buses and tankers)for practical training
on Defensive Driving Courses as per PDO specifications.
The nominator must indicate if they require TATI to provide
a 3.5 Tonne vehicle. This facility is only available for Omanis.

cost?
Q 17. What is the procedure
for booking if my company doesn’t have a credit facility with
TATI?
The relevant nomination form must be fully completed and bear
your company’s official stamp and PDO contract number.
Once done, it must be submitted to TATI with the cash payment
for the required booking.

Q 18. Who will pay for the
training course?
As per PDO regulations, your company has to pay for PDO approved
training courses. It is also permissible for individuals to
pay for themselves if their circumstances require it.
Q 19. Will TATI provide transport
to assist my attendance at a course?
Q 20. Can TATI terminate my
training?
Yes. This can happen if there are safety or related issues
and is at TATI management’s discretion
Q 21. What does the term ‘No
Show’ mean?
A client is marked as ‘No Show’ for the following
reasons:
- Failed to arrive (absent) on 1st/2nd day.
- Arrived late for the course.
- Failed the Keystone eyesight test.
- Did not bring a valid ROP driving licence appropriate to the course – including length of time held, where this
is relevant.
- Did not bring HSE Passport or prerequisites not therein.
- Not in possession of proper footwear.
- Did not bring vehicle (where applicable).
- Unable to understand course language.
- Dangerous driver despite best efforts by trainer.
- Other course prerequisite(s) not met.
Q 22. When and how is the pre-course eyesight test done?
You can have a Pre-course eyesight
test done at TATI once you have received our written course
confirmation (there is no charge for this service).
Q 23. Will there be tests
during the training?
Q 24. What proof do I receive
that I have completed the training?
• Your HSE passport is stamped and a permit issued by
Sheida.
• Certificates are also issued for successful SJM candidates
Q 25. How long is a Driving
Permit valid for?
This can vary depending on your performance when tested
by SDI/SHIEDA, the standard body. TATI is not involved
in the certification process.
Q 26. What is the process
to renew the Driving Permit?
You need to enquire with SDI/SHEIDA regarding a DD06 recertification
course.
Q 27. If I am an automatic driving license holder, which PDO DD course I can undergo?
Light Vehicle Blacktop in Automatic Transmission-DD01.
Q 28. What if the Driving Permit is not renewed?
If a Driving Permit is not renewed before the expiry date a
permit holder will have to attend the full course again.
Q 29. Can the Driving Permit be renewed with another training institute?
The only body that issues renewed DD permits is SDI/SHEIDA, and only after the holder has completed a DD06 recertification course. If the permit has been allowed to expire, the full course will have to be done again at TATI followed by an assessment by SDI/SHEIDA.
