of Manpower
The Ministry of Manpower proposes and implements general
manpower policies in line with the state economic and social
objectives. The Ministry of Manpower is one of our major clients.
The technical colleges of Oman come under the Ministry of
Manpower.
It not only provides vocational training and technical training, but also expands the same in accordance
to the requirements of the labor market. The Ministry of Manpower applies, follows and monitors implementation
of the labor law and regulations and provides labor care in coordination with the concerned authorities.
It contributes to the national efforts aimed at availing vocational guidance programs and raising awareness about the
values of work and encouraging the spirit of individual initiatives among citizens.
Colleges of Technology
The Ministry of Manpower has seven Regional Colleges of Technology
in Oman, located in Al Mussanna, Ibra, Ibri, Nizwa, Salalah,
Shinas and one Higher College of Technology in Muscat. The
Higher College of Technology and the Colleges of Technology
are academic and technological institutions which aim at:
- working towards the application of technological and administrative knowledge in technological and administrative fields in par with the requirements of the labor market
- meeting the student's needs through social, academic, technological, and vocational development
- building up a generation of highly competent technicians by providing recognized and high quality technological programs
- providing the economic sector and other sectors with technically and administratively qualified personnel
- providing technological and parallel education and training services
- conducting scientific and applied research and studies and
publishing them for the benefit of the Colleges
of Technology
and the society.
Higher College of Technology, Muscat
The Higher College of Technology in Muscat is one of the seven colleges under the Ministry of Manpower, Oman. The Regional Colleges of Technology were started in 1993 except the one in Shinas, which was started in 2005. The Muscat Industrial Technical College was started in 1984 at the initiative of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said to educate the citizens of Oman by implementing high quality programs in various fields. The college was renamed and upgraded as The Higher College of Technology in 2001.
It is the only college under the Ministry of Manpower that offers Higher Diploma Programs and Bachelor Degrees in various streams. The Regional Colleges of Technology offer up to the Diploma Program.
The motto is to endow Omani youth with the knowledge and
skills to face the challenges of the new era. It is one
of the biggest colleges in Oman having 7300 students studying
for various programs.
In the Higher College of Technology, the students spend their first year in a Foundation Program which comprises of three levels - Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced. This helps the students to improve their English communication skills. In Advanced level, the students study IT and Mathematics in addition to English. After the Foundation Year the students study four years in the college starting from the Certificate Level. The four years of study is divided into Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma and B.Tech. The students progress from one level to another depending upon their performance at each level.
Apart from the English Language Center, the College has five departments; Engineering, Information Technology, Science, Business Studies, and Pharmacy. Inclusive of the programs mentioned above the college is offering some specialized courses like TOEFL, CCNA, LINUX etc., which aims to train the students to get International Certifications.
College of Technology, Al Musanna
Al Musanna College was established in 1993 through the decision of Vocational Authority no.131/93 in order to change from a Vocational Training Institute to a full-pledge Technical College.
Al Musanna College of Technology (ACT) is one of the seven technological colleges affiliated to the Ministry of Manpower. At present, there are three academic departments in the college namely: Business Studies Department, Engineering Department and Information Technology Department. There are two centers in the college that play a big role in preparing and supporting students to achieve their academic excellence, English Language Centre and Educational Technology Centre.
The college is dedicated to deliver high quality technical education and aims to produce graduates who have the professional and personal skills to enter employment with confidence thus contributing effectively to the regional and national economic development. Graduates will also have the linguistic ability to function effectively in an international environment.
College of Technology, Ibra
Ibra College of Technology is one of the established technical colleges in the Sultanate of Oman that has been governed by the Ministry of Manpower since 2001. The college offers different specializations viz. Business, Engineering, Information Technology & Business-IT under the New B. Tech Program of the Ministry of Manpower.
The college was established in 1993, after changing the Vocational Training Institute into Ibra Technical Industrial College. In 2001, the name of the college was changed to Ibra College of Technology. Thus, it has international specifications and standards of a higher educational and training institution, which offers practical and field training to its students.
The College believes that all individuals, regardless of economic or social status, are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect and should be provided with opportunities to develop their skills and benefit the welfareof society.
Both technological and general education are essential parts of the Ibra College Technological curriculum, enabling students to develop self-awareness and social responsibility necessary to successfully compete in their chosen occupational fields. The programs offered by the Ibra College of Technology are directed towards serving the needs of all individuals within the community, as well as the needs of the community as a whole.
College of Technology, Ibri
Ibri College of Technology is the seventh College of Technology administered and financed by the Ministry of Manpower in Oman. It is located in Ibri, which is a thriving small town in the south west of the country. The College has an ambitious plan to serve the local community and to boost its economy.
Admission to the College began in September 2007 and the total enrolment stands at 637 students, 33 percent female; 67 percent male. In the academic year 2008-2009 the College will be the home of no less than 1500 students. This expansion is accompanied with the provision of more facilities and more student services. Already, work has begun on phase two of the College's project which involves the construction of the Engineering Department. The football pitch will be ready soon and the plans for other sports grounds have been submitted for construction approval.
College of Technology, Nizwa
Nizwa College of Technology, established in 1993 and known until June 2001, as Nizwa Technical and Industrial College, provides technological education to Omani school graduates. The college meets the post-school technological training needs of the students. Admission to the College is open to all Omani graduates who have achieved a General Secondary School Certificate, with a minimum qualifying score set by the Admissions Committee.

Nizwa College of Technology is fortunate to have so many committed professionals making a significant difference to students' lives everyday.

College of Technology, Salalah
Salalah College Of Technology is one of the seven colleges of technology established in the Sultanate of Oman. The College is working under the Directorate General of Technological Education, Ministry of Manpower.
The College offers Higher Diploma courses in various fields of specialization such as Business, Engineering, Construction and Information Technology, in addition to the English Foundation courses. All Students are required to pass the one-year English Foundation Course and are admitted to the 2-year Diploma course of their choice.
Salalah College of technology started as a vocational training center in 1979 and then became a technical industrial college in 1993. It was renamed as Salalah College of Technology in 2001.
The College of Technology intends to become the "College of Choice" for students and for the industry by providing high quality teaching, learning and research that makes a significant contribution to on-going national economic development.
College of Technology, Shinas
Shinas College of Technology was founded in September 2005. The campus is located at Al-Aqr, on the northern outskirts of Shinas. It is about six kilometers from the city center on the road to Dubai that links the Sultanate and the United Arab Emirates.
The College started with the English Language Centre (ELC) which qualifies students to pursue a Certificate in Engineering, Information Technology or Business. ELC provides a level-based English language program for all students admitted to the College. The program is specifically designed to improve the students' study skills as well as general abilities to communicate in English.
Shinas College of Technology, aims at working towards the application of technical and administrative knowledge in technological and administrative fields in line with the requirements of the labor market. The college focuses towards meeting the students' needs by creating opportunities for individual, social, academic, technological and vocational development. The college brings up a generation of highly competent technicians through the provision of accredited, highly technological programs. It caters for the private and public sectors' needs with technically and administratively qualified personnel. By offering technological, parallel education, and training services; and carrying out and publishing scientific and applied research for the benefit of the colleges of technology and the community, the college is working towards the growth of Sultanate of Oman.
