Before anyone is permitted to begin an OPAL defensive
driving course with TATI, they are required to pass
the OPAL eyesight test to ensure their eyesight meets
the required standard for safe driving, either with
or without spectacles. Unfortunately, some people joining
our courses fail the test, resulting in them not being
able to receive the training –Candidates must either undergo vision screening
or provide comprehensive eye test report completed by an eye specialist or report
obtained from an ROP-approved optical centre/shop within the previous three months.
The screening must include depth perception, colour perception, peripheral
vision and near and far visoion. Note: This screening test conducted by TATI should
not be used for prescribing spectacles or contact lenses.
We at TATI are conscious of the inconvenience this
can cause to companies and individuals and how it can
disrupt OPAL activities, so we have decided to
offer an additional service to alleviate the problem.
We are available at our training premises to test the
eyesight of people who have been nominated for a Defensive
Driving course with us up to 3 weeks ahead. The service
will be available between 0900–1500 each working
day. This is a walk-in service, so no appointment is
necessary. However, it must not be longer than 3 months
before your training is due to take place and you must
have received confirmation of your course.
THIS SERVICE IS FREE OF CHARGE.
In the event of a person failing the eyesight test,
TATI will refer the person to an optician to prescribe
any corrective action deemed necessary to improve the
eyesight to a level to pass the OPAL test. Assuming you
have come to us for the test in good time, you will
have plenty of time to deal with any correction needed
and eliminate the risk of forfeiting the course and
fee due to a failed eyesight test on the morning of
the course.
PLEASE READ YOUR CONFIRMATION LETTER TO ENSURE YOU
ARE AWARE OF OTHER REASONS WHY YOU MAY NOT BE ALLOWED
TO COMPLETE YOUR BOOKED COURSE.
Please also note, even if you have attended an optician
and had corrective action taken, you must still pass
the eyesight test at TATI when you return for another
course.
